Ethiopian students affair shows prevalent racism in Israel
6 September 2009, by Gideon LevyAll of a sudden, we can say "racism." A shock wave has struck complacent Israeli society. A few dozen Ethiopian children were not accepted to religious schools in Petah Tikva. That is truly terrible, everyone tsked-tsked at the heart-rending picture of Aschalo Sama, a boy without a school. Even President Shimon Peres expressed shock. Everyone is permitted to be shocked; it is politically correct. Oh, how beautiful we are, how enlightened we seem to ourselves. Look how we fight racism, (…) -
Goldstone Report Finds Israeli Military Guilty of War Crimes in Gaza
16 September 2009, by Juan R. I. ColeThe Independent reports that a United Nations fact-finding inquiry has found that Israel committed war crimes during its attack on Gaza last winter, as did the Palestinian Hamas. The lion’s share of blame in the report, however, falls on Israeli forces, which stand accused of planning out a disproportionate use of force, the punishing of a civilian population, and reckless disregard for civilian lives— all of which are war crimes in international law. The report suggests that some Israeli (…) -
The Facts About Hamas and the War on Gaza
14 January 2009, by Norman FinkelsteinThe record is fairly clear. You can find it on the Israeli website, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website. Israel broke the ceasefire by going into the Gaza and killing six or seven Palestinian militants. At that point—and now I’m quoting the official Israeli website—Hamas retaliated or, in retaliation for the Israeli attack, then launched the missiles. Now, as to the reason why, the record is fairly clear as well. According to Ha’aretz, Defense Minister Barak began plans for this (…) -
The time of the righteous
10 January 2009, by Gideon LevyThis war, perhaps more than its predecessors, is exposing the true deep veins of Israeli society. Racism and hatred are rearing their heads, as is the impulse for revenge and the thirst for blood. The "inclination of the commander" in the Israel Defense Forces is now "to kill as many as possible," as the military correspondents on television describe it. And even if the reference is to Hamas fighters, this inclination is still chilling. The unbridled aggression and brutality are justified (…) -
Murdering Palestinians for their organs: "All facts on the ground prove Swedish report correct"
24 August 2009, by Saed BannouraFormer Palestinian detainee, researcher Abdul-Nasser Farwana, stated that all facts on the ground, since decades, prove that the Israeli occupation executed Palestinian detainees after they surrendered and refused to hand their bodies to their families. Hundreds of bodies were transferred to the families days, months or even years after the fact, and when the bodies were sent back, they were missing vital internal organs. Link for the Aftonbladet report by Swedish journalist Donald Boström (…) -
Israel - a Jewish State or a state of its citizens ?
8 May 2009, by Oren MedicksIsrael is possibly the only state where such a question could have any meaning. According to the declaration of Independence, Israel belongs to the entire Jewish people, not only to those who choose to live here. This is the foundation for the ‘law of return’, under which every Jew has, upon arrival, the right to immediate Israeli citizenship. This means that Israeli actions are carried out on behalf of the Jewish people and that the Jewish people shares responsibility for Israeli policy. (…) -
Israel’s Constant Crisis
31 December 2008, by Justin RaimondoAs the Israelis continue to pound Gaza, killing Hamas cadre, traffic cops, and civilians alike, Americans shake their heads and wonder: why can’t they all just get along? Why must we be involved? The answer to both questions lies in understanding the peculiar nature of the Israeli state and its "special relationship" to the West, specifically the U.S. Defenders of the Israeli government and its policies often complain that Israel just wants to be treated as a "normal country," like any (…) -
"Comment vas-tu ? Comment vont les vaches à la ferme ? - Bien, bien", répondait-elle. Et (…) -
Arabs to strike against ’wave of racism’
6 September 2009, by Roee NahmiasThe Higher Arab Monitoring Committee announced on Wednesday that it will hold a general strike next month in protest of the government’s policies. In the meeting, held in Nazareth, it was decided that the strike will take place on the same day that the events of October 2000, which left 13 Israeli-Arabs dead, are commemorated. The one-day strike will include all sectors in Arab towns. This is a relatively serious move, since it has been a few years since the last general strike in the (…)
